Mayor George Heartwell proclaims
Lake Drive is now Complete!

Mayor George Heartwell
CS-Rae Bower
LakeDr. ribbon signing

We celebrate as Mayor George Heartwell proclaimed Lake Dr. as the first official
Complete Street in Grand Rapids. Lake
Drive is now “complete” with the addition
of new on-street bike lanes, pedestrian
crossings at every intersection, enhanced
bus stops with seating, and newly paved
vehicular travel lanes!

“Complete Streets” are safe and convenient
for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation riders, and motor vehicle drivers of all ages and abilities. Complete
Streets encourage healthy and active lifestyles, reduce household transportation costs, enhance community connections, lessen oil dependence, and create a more environmentally-friendly, accessible and
livable community for everyone.

The Complete Streets legislation is now
up for consideration in the State Senate.
Adoption of the Complete Streets
legislation will encourage communities
to proactively plan and adhere to regulations
that promote multi-modal transportation
options and accessibility for all users.
