DAKC CELEBRATES ADA ANNIVERSARY WITH PICNIC IN THE PARK!

(Grand Rapids)—Disability Advocates of Kent County (DAKC) will again be celebrating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with a picnic in the park. This is the third year for the picnic which this year will celebrate the ADA’s 17th birthday with food, live entertainment, and prizes. This year’s event will again be held at the MacKay / Jaycee Park, 2531 Kalamazoo SE in Grand Rapids Wednesday July 25th from 11:30-1:30.

Community leaders will join people with and without disabilities for this year’s picnic. New this year, is live entertainment provided by Andy Holtgreive the front man for the band Domestic Problems.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990 by then President George HW Bush. The ADA was a major leap forward for the rights of the millions of individuals with various disabilities in the country. The act outlaws most discrimination against any person with a disability and mandates certain accessibility standards in public places.

Disability Advocates of Kent County is a non profit disability rights organization whose mission is “To advocate, assist, educate and inform on independent living options for persons with disabilities and to create a barrier-free society for all.”
